§ 02Analysis
The difference in cost is large. Claude Opus 5.5 costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, Claude Sonnet 5.5 $2 and $10, and Claude Haiku 5.5 $0.10 and $0.50. GLM-5.3 costs $0.079 and $1.40, and GLM-5.3 Flash $0.0052 and $0.1985.
So GLM-5.3 is cheaper than Claude Opus 5.5 by a factor of about fifty on input and about fourteen on output. Even against Haiku 5.5, the cheapest Claude, GLM-5.3 Flash costs less on both input and output. For high-volume workloads this can decide the choice on its own.
Claude has the edge on input types. Claude Opus 5.5 accepts text, images and files such as PDFs directly. GLM-5.3 Flash reads text, images and video, while GLM-5.3 is text-only. If your work is mostly about reading PDFs and scanned documents at the flagship level, Claude's native file input is more convenient.
On the other hand, GLM-5.3 Flash's video input has no counterpart in the Claude list. Context is similar: Claude Opus 5.5 lists one million tokens, GLM 1,048,576.
Claude Opus 5.5 can return up to 128,000 tokens per request. GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3 Flash list 943,718. For long rewrites or agent runs that produce a lot of text at once, GLM leaves much more room.
Claude is available only through Anthropic and its partners. GLM-5.3 Flash is open weights under the MIT licence and GLM-5.3 under a custom licence, so you can run them on your own infrastructure when data residency or cost requires it.
